We love this Trini island nation!

So we felt right at home here after our 2,000 mile trip
(actual sailed distance) from Colombia (click here for that trip).

But Trinidad is more than charming and intriguing and engaging.
It's also a great place for boat work, to bring Naga up to the condition
she should be in for our round-the-world trip. We did a lot.

So there was lots to do on the boat, Chrissi had lots of canvas
and sail work to do, and of course - it was almost Carnival time again.
So there HAD to be some partying too!

Naga's Goodies:
In addition to a new teak cockpit floor and some minor structural repairs,
here are a few of the goodies that Naga got.

After 23 years of racing and cruising, Naga's
hardware was getting pretty tired.
Here's a bit of boat jewelry - among a lot
of other things - that she got:
a lovely new Andersen winch!
This controls the mainsail,
daggerboard, and all the reefing.

This new GPS satellite navigator
has detailed charts that show exactly
where we are. Big readouts make for easily
read info (I could hardly read the old one).
Here we're doing 13.3 knots.

This new Harken traveler controls
the mainsail's boom. Ball bearings
make it very smooth. Naga's old
traveler was tired and made us
worry that it might explode at the
worst moment.

Carnival Time and our Going Away Party

Chrissi was busy with canvas and sail repair work and Karate classes,
and Jack was busy fixing the boat and with his online businesses.
But then it was Carnival time again: Enough work!

Heading for the center of it all at the Savannah.
A little "wining" along the way.

\

And these girls can wine too!

It was Carnival time, but it was also a time of impending war.
A lot of boats in TT were sporting large banners in their rigging
like these, and they became part of our (very popular!) Carnival costumes:
No Blood for Oil

Getting time to leave again, here's a bit of our going away party on Naga.

Chevy, Phil, and Suzie

Now we'll start that Around the World Trip and head for the Panama Canal and the Pacific!
But along the way we'll spend time again in Venezuela, and then in Colombia.
